Rhinoscleroma with Involvement of the Maxillary Sinus

چکیده
Rhinoscleroma is a chronic granulomatous infection of the upper respiratory tract, particularly affecting the nose. It is a bacterial disease mainly caused by rhinoscleromatis subspecies of Klebsiella pneumoniae. We described a case of a 72-year-old Chinese man presented with repeated epistaxis for more than 2 years without any inducing factors accompanied by nasal obstruction, purulent discharge, nasal itching irritation of the left facial skin for 9 months and right ear for 3 months. Computer tomography showed a mucosal thickening in the nasopharynx, a shrinking of the nasal cavity structure, and a maxillary sinus inflammation. MRI showed a superficial thickening of the nasopharyngeal mucosa, a disappearance of the bilateral pharyngeal orifice of the Eustachian tube, and a flake high signal in the nasal cavity and maxillary sinus. A histopathology report showed a mixed inflammatory cell infiltrate and a collection of large, foamy Russell bodies and vacuolated Mikulicz cells beneath the nasal squamous epithelium. Rhinoscleroma is a quite rare case in the Otorhinolaryngology department but it is important to consider the etiology, diagnosis, and treatment of the disease. Rhinoscleroma requires a prompt diagnosis and treatment which may be fatal if the treatment is delayed. We managed our patient conservatively using intramuscular streptomycin and hemostatic anti-inflammatory drugs.

T-Cell Lymphoma of Palate with Nose and Maxillary Sinus Involvement: A Case Report
Oral cavity T-cell lymphoma occurs rarely. This case report describes a patient with such a tumor. The case was a 75 years old man presented with a painless swelling on his hard palate mucosa. He had suffered from nose- bleeding and nasal obstruction. Pathology revealed the presence of a T-cell lymphoma tumor in the palate. Though rare, the signs and symptoms of the case suggest that T-cell lym...

Calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumor is a rare odontogenic neoplasm. Its occurrence in the maxillary sinus is very rare. Maxillary tumors tend to be locally aggressive and may rapidly involve the surrounding vital structures. We report a case of calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumor involving maxillary sinus in a 48 years old female patient with the oral mucosal involvement. The purpose o...
متن کاملGiant cell tumor of maxillary sinus: A case report
Giant cell tumor (GCT) is a benign primary bone neoplasm that usually occurre in the long bones. The skull is affected in only 1% of cases, predominantly in the sphenoid and temporal bones. Maxillary sinus involvement is exceedingly rare. The case is a 26 year-old man presented with history of gradually increasing swelling in the right side of face without any history of trauma or systemic diso...
متن کاملEvaluation of prevalence and pattern of maxillary sinus mucosal thickening in cone beam computed tomography of dental implant candidates in Shiraz, Iran
BACKGROUND AND AIM: This study aimed to assess maxillary sinus floor membrane thickness and ostium patency (OP) in patients undergoing cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) evaluation for implant placement in the posterior maxilla. Mucosal thickening (MT) could be cause of post-operative complications in implant procedures; awareness of this incidence could help proper detection and further succ...
